Studio ROWOLD is the label of Ellis Rowold :
A designer with a passion for wool felt, leather, and timeless design. From her Amsterdam studio, she creates sustainable objects in which craftsmanship, material, and form are perfectly balanced.
From idea to object
My work always begins with a question: What am I missing? What's the problem? And then I ask myself the most important question: How can I create it myself?
Based on this idea, I design products that are functional, surprisingly effective, and that people enjoy using or giving as a gift. My designs are often clever and unexpected – but always well-thought-out .
Materials with a story
Since the start of Studio ROWOLD in 2013 (which emerged from a collaboration with Loes Wagemans at GEWOON), I have remained true to my love for merino wool felt .
Today, I combine this with other natural materials like vegetable -tanned leather (including vachetta) . Two of the oldest materials known to man – crafted into contemporary objects with a clean, minimalist character.
For the global nomad
My bags and accessories are designed for the modern traveler: someone who always carries their essentials.
The shapes are sleek, the details subtle, and each design finds a balance between functionality, durability and aesthetics.
Beyond the studio
Besides my work at Studio ROWOLD, I'm actively involved in other creative projects. These include:
- I design and develop unique dolls for every hotel room of CitizenM Hotels
- Do I contribute to social product development at MooiDoorMij?
- I design and make costumes for theatre productions by Stage Entertainment Netherlands
In all these projects my love for materials, detail and making comes together.
What you make must be right
Sometimes practical, sometimes poetic — but always with attention.
I design from the conviction that something only feels right if it is correct in form, use and intention.
